The University of Vaasa significantly improved its results in the University Impact Rankings for 2024 published by Times Higher Education (THE). The rankings measure global universities’ success in delivering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The University of Vaasa was assessed on six of the United Nations’ 17 SDGs and entered the top 300 in three categories:
- Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8),
- Climate action (SDG 13), and
- Peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16).
This marks a substantial improvement from the previous year, where the university had only one top 300 result. In other SDGs, the university maintained its position.
Notably, in SDG 16, the university advanced from the 401-600 bracket to the 201-300 bracket. This leap reflects the university’s proactive approach to research impact and government collaboration. Additionally, the university was newly ranked in Responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), placing among the top 401-600.
Martin Meyer, vice-rector of international affairs at the University of Vaasa, says that the results show the university’s strategic commitment to the SDGs.

The THE Impact Rankings included a total of 2 152 universities. The University of Vaasa is ranked overall among the top 801-1000, and the score improved from 55.3 to 62.6. The university maintained its position in the ranking even though almost 400 new universities entered the ranking this year.
